Her Divine Frequency. Matt plays Gospel Grooves at Vinyl Gathering
For the Vinyl Gathering’s 1st Birthday blow-out, and after a string of back-to-back sets from the VG regulars, we were invited to jump on for the final set of the night.
A 30-minute window to fling some breakbeat about before last orders. Matt teamed up with Kris for the occasion, squeezing a frankly irresponsible number of tunes into a half hour.
We’d barely found our groove before the PA decided to vaporise the bottom end, followed immediately by a rogue switch tripping itself out of pure melodrama. Credit to the VG crew though: they had the system resurrected in no time, panic averted, and with a few supportive shots from the Shoes team, we hurtled into a frantic, joyful, slightly chaotic finale.
The VG All-Stars had already been up earlier performing their “one tune per player” relay race across the decks. Dom’s contribution had the entire room cheering; to be fair, who isn’t going to lose it for Chaka Khan?
We even managed to sneak in a small tribute to the late Mani with an encore spin of “Fools Gold.” A golden moment, and the perfect nod to a legend.
Many happy returns to Vinyl Gathering, all the selectors, and of course Simon & Joe for putting the night on.
