For me, the infectiousness of this track is undoubtedly that bass hook. Taken from Minne Riperton’s When it Comes Down to it released in 1975.

Rap was pretty angry in the 90’s.

Perhaps as a Hip Hop paracetamol to the NWAs, and Public Enemies of the time, Arrested Development drew parallels with Soul II Soul, and the general sound of Native Tongues. Celebrating Africanism as opposed to focussing on negative inequalities that, although had a valid point, were not always appropriate for the mood.

I’m mean no one wants to be angry all the time do they? Well unless you’re called something like Alan Ford or Vinnie Jones…
