As daylight faded, the floor filled – and the mischief began.
The second half of our BOA Festival set saw us shift up a gear. After easing in with dub and downtempo during the warm-up, Dom & Matt moved into full party mode: Disco edits, garage classics, house belters, breaks and a few cheeky curveballs to keep the heads guessing.
Dom knew what he was doing when he dropped Ripgroove by Double 99. One of the first UK garage tracks to break into the mainstream, hitting No. 14 in the UK Singles Chart in 1997. It helped define the speed garage sound – big basslines, chopped-up vocals, and that raw, warehouse energy.
The live mashup of Scram by Plump DJs and Michael Jackson’s Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough harks back to a Tufnell Park residency Matt had in the early 2000s – the night was actually named after the Plumps’ track. Back then, it was all done with two bits of vinyl, no loops, no cue points… wild. This was the first time he had blended the two in all those years, and judging by the reaction, it might be worth knocking up a proper bootleg at last.
And yes, as the dodgy MCing at the end confirmed: T-shirts are available in the shop. Go on – save Matt’s embarrassment and make it worth his while, get over there and buy one!
