Next up on Saturday at Greetings from Carnivalism was Simon Arnoldi, digging deep into soulful house, jazz and several generations of underground dance music.
Founder of Far Call Records, organiser of pop-up record stores and festivals, and creator of the open-decks night Vinyl Gathering, Simon has a long-standing connection with vinyl culture. He’s also been involved over the years with festivals including Farmfest and Field Trip, so bringing a record bag down to The Shoes felt very much at home.
Musically, the set joins plenty of dots. Earlier US house from Frankie Knuckles, Masters At Work, Danny Krivit and Cevin Fisher sits alongside the deeper sounds of Lars Bartkuhn, Toby Tobias and Ron Trent, with Florence Adooni and Alma Negra bringing jazzier and more globally influenced sounds into the mix.
Deep, soulful and unhurried, this was a Saturday afternoon set allowed to take its time, gradually pulling the garden towards the dancefloor.
