What can I say, but at this point in the Carnivalism weekender it was ALL GOOD!
Months of planning were behind us, a rather excellent Friday disco night under the belt (more on that later), the crowd had been dancing for hours, the weather was on fire, cracking sets from all the DJs throughout the day.
We didn’t even have to worry about whether our headliner would turn up… ever the pro, Dom Search of The Nextmen had been there for hours too.
Even though we were in the West Country, I went back to my London roots and started with a bit of UK garage. Garrett David’s “All Night (Opulence)” and Matt Jam Lamont, Echelon and SHOSH’s “Let U Know” set the tone, with the absolute gospel banger “Nothing But Happiness” by Alan Dixon in between.

For a touch of Carnival vibe, enter my edit of Eddie Grant’s My Turn to Love You. Big up MrLoveTights for the original introduction to his “Live At Notting Hill” set recorded back in 1981!
And with Dom ready to take over, The Nick Straker Band’s “Straight Ahead” brings the set to a fitting close: warm, optimistic and pointed firmly towards the night ahead. By then, I was ready to dance my little socks off.
